Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD) successfully conducted two weeks Basic
Lapidary workshop in May 2025 at PIFD Skardu Campus.
The comprehensive workshop was designed to empower local community of Skardu with
fundamental skills in transforming rough minerals into precisely cut gemstones. Through hands-
on training, participants learned skills in cabochon making, stone carving and introductory
faceting.
The Certificate distribution ceremony was graced by Mr. Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Minister of
Planning and Development, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. Ms. Aneela Mehdi-Assistant
Commissioner, Skardu, along with local government representative visited the display and was
impressed by the students' work and appreciated their talents.
The workshop highlighted the immense potential of the region's youth and PIFD's commitment
to empowering communities through education and skill development in the region.
