PIFD is the only University offering Leather Accessories and Footwear (Design and Manufacturing)
programme in the country. Pakistan is one of the leading leather producing countries and it is no doubt
that our leather accessories and footwear manufacturing industry has an immense scope for the
local sale as well as export. With properly trained and qualified professionals, not only will the quality
of products be enhanced, but workmanship will be improved too. Leather Accessories and Footwear
is an intensive skill-based programme emphasizing the crucial relationship between designs and
manufacturing needs of the modern footwear and leather industry. The course is based on two core
areas “Design & Development” and “Production Techniques with Operational Management”.
Teaching methodology includes formal lectures, group seminars, tutorials, presentations, practical
workshops, and studio-based activates. The programme includes market/ trend research, visits to
various tanneries and shoe manufacturing facilities as well as different exhibitions. The internship is
a compulsory requirement of student’s training and professional learning at PIFD which takes place
at different footwear and accessories industries/ brands. The programme offers the expertise in Leather
Accessories and Footwear Design and Manufacturing technology, required by industries worldwide
and includes training, supported by the Pakistani Leather and Footwear Industry. Students are
provided an opportunity to attend two weeks training programme at ARS Sutoria, Milan, Italy/ Fashion
Institute of Technology, New York, U.S.A/ London College of Fashion, U.K. during summer break.
Career Path
The programme leads to a successful career in Leather Accessories and Footwear Designing and
Manufacturing. By the end of the programme, the student can pursue an array of careers in Footwear &
Accessory field as an Entrepreneur, Designer, Buyer, Brand Manager, Product Manager, Product
Developer, Marketing Manager, and Merchandiser or Planner. Graduates can also work in
academics or pursue further higher education.
