Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD) was established in 1995 as a project of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). With the blessing of Allah Almighty in 2008, PSFD was renamed as Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD). While in 2011 it succeeded to obtain the Charter from Federal Government as a Public Sector Academic Institution. PIFD is a HEC recognized degree awarding institute which is functioning efficiently to strengthen the Pakistani industries by providing them qualified, hardworking, technical and enthusiastic professionals in seven disciplines which are Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Marketing and Merchandising, Jewellery Design and Gemological Sciences, Furniture Design & Manufacture, Leather Accessories & Footwear and Ceramic Design.
PIFD is the first ever institute which is offering and has specialization in design education over the country. PIFD is focusing on producing design professionals who are deeply collaborative, ethically grounded, emphatically connected and technologically empowered. PIFD has a very clear vision of being in line with the cultural, social and religious values of our country while imparting quality education to its students.
To meet the objectives, PIFD Library is imparting its role in the form of providing related reading materials to its users. The library has come into being right after the establishment of PSFD. The journey of PIFD Library consists of more than two decades. Currently PIFD Library has a rich collection of books, journals/ magazines, E-Books, E-Journals/ Magazines, Audio/ Video material and online databases. The library is continuously struggling to cope with the standards by ensuring quality of resources rather than quantity. A Library Committee headed by Mr. Muhammad Umer, Assistant Professor is governing the library which further consists of senior faculty members, a Treasurer, and a Librarian. The library conducts training sessions, workshops and literacy programmes as well as annual book fair for the dissemination of knowledge.
